Zithromax (azithromycin) Tablets 250 mg (Z-Pack)

Indicated for treating pneumonia and bronchitis in adults and pediatric patients aged 6 months and older, and in children aged one year and over.

Dosage and Administration

Azithromycin tablets are intended for oral use in the treatment of both acute and maintenance treatment of pneumonia; however, the recommended dose is 250 mg twice daily. It should be used at the same time each day and is not recommended in children below 6 months of age. Maintenance dose is 500 mg twice daily for the duration of treatment. It is not recommended to exceed the recommended dose. Doses up to 1000 mg twice daily are not indicated in patients with severe or frequent infections and should be taken with a completely fasting diet. In children aged 2 months and over, the recommended dose is 250 mg twice daily.

Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients

In children requiring dose adjustments due to severe hepatic impairment, dose adjustment should be performed according to body weight. Dosage adjustments should be made in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Administration

Patients should be instructed to swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water and not to split, chew, or crush the tablets. Patients should not use Zithromax tablets if they have hypersensitivity to any of the excipients. Zithromax (azithromycin) should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Patients should lie down at the time of first starting therapy and should lie down again after 10 minutes. Zithromax tablets are not recommended for patients with underlying liver disease, renal impairment, or those taking certain other medications. In patients with underlying liver disease, the dose should be adjusted in relation to weight. Zithromax (azithromycin) should be taken at the same time each day and is not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment.

In children requiring dose adjustments due to severe hepatic impairment, the recommended dose is 500 mg twice daily.
